You Know What You Want But Don’t Know The Next Step

You have a skill.  You have a passion.  And, you’re pretty darn good at it.  You want to or have already started turning that drive into a business.

But, there’s so much to do!  And, as a parent, there’s already an infinite amount of work required to take care of the kids.  Somehow, you’re supposed to take care of the day to day AND build a business?

Oh, and it’s not any business you are trying to build.  You are yearning for something that makes you feel like you’re on top of the world.  You want to use your talents and knowledge you already have to take things to the next level.  You want to be an amazing role model for your kids.

Did I mention you want to do it from anywhere?  This is not just any old business you are building.  What you are building will allow you to travel as much as you like.

You want the business of your dreams that lets you do what you love – whenever, wherever.

How’s that going for you?

Did you figure out that your new boss isn’t as great as you hoped?

You expect yourself to do it all single-handedly and all at the same time?

You don’t really have great direction on what you are supposed to be doing.  You are searching the internet for all the free downloads you can find.  You’re unsure of what actually needs to get done – what should be included and what shouldn’t.

Every once in a while, you feel like you find a right answer.  A guru on the internet said what you wanted to hear at the right time.  But wait, then you heard something else that says something completely different.

The Overwhelm Doesn’t Last Forever

In the beginning, ramping up your business sounds impossible.  You get started, and then it even starts to feel impossible.  But, then something clicks.  All of a sudden, you get some traction – make a few sales.  Then, people start coming to you.  They love you!  They are throwing money at you asking for your help.

You get into a groove.  You know exactly what you are supposed to be working on.  You have a routine.  The overwhelm is starting to wash away.

Your family can feel the benefits of you doing what you love.  You have way more energy to devote to them.  Your spouse and kids notice that you have more patience.

You get to exercise some of those benefits of self employment; you can travel whenever and for however long you want.  Your family LOVES the new vacation schedule.

You can’t wait to help more people.  You’re excited for Fridays, but also for Mondays (or whenever your “Fridays” and “Mondays” are).

Hi!  I’m BJ.

I was an engineer for 11 years climbing the corporate ladder.  The lifestyle allowed me to pay off my student loan debt, buy a house, get married, and have a couple of kids.  But, then what?

I was left wanting more satisfaction from my work. I wanted something I could proudly show off to my kids and to set a great example for them.  And, of course, I wanted to travel more. I wanted the flexibility to work when I want and where I want.

Now, I do what I love as a profession.  I get to help budding entrepreneurs realize their full potential on their own terms.  I help them focus in on exactly the product or service that is best for them.  My clients get clarity on precisely who their ideal customer is.  Then, they create an outreach plan that brings in a steady stream of customers.

The real icing on the cake is that I take as much time as I need throughout the day to be with my wife and kids.  Sometimes, we’re together at home but 12+ weeks out of the year we are traveling.  That is my ideal life design.

I want to help you, too, achieve your ideal life design.

The Design + Grow Masterplan

There is no cookie-cutter approach that will make you successful.  We will hone in on the biggest pain points of your business and work on them first.

My Design + Grow Masterplan is a 3 month long program where we will meet through a video phone call weekly.

As we are working on your biggest sources of frustration, we will naturally work through my 3 step process.

There are 3 phases:

Blueprint

The blueprint phase is all about strategy.  We will start with your goals.  What are you trying to accomplish?  And, most importantly, why?  This is utterly important so that you can weather the inevitable ups and downs of creating a business you love.  Next, we’ll translate your goals into a high level strategy.  We don’t need to make every decision now, but we need to understand who your ideal customer is, what resources you are starting with, and generally how you want to serve your customers.

Your Offers

Your blueprint will point us in the right direction of how you want to serve your customers.  We’ll take that further to really understand the psychology of your ideal customer.  What are they afraid of?  What do they consider success?  Where do they spend their time?  We will pinpoint precisely how best to solve your ideal customer’s problem.  If you can solve their problem or teach them how to do it, they will be knocking down your door begging for more.

I’ll be there to guide you through the process, cheer you on and periodically dish out the cold, hard truth to inevitably result in your success.

Connections

Selling something is as simple as understanding your ideal customer’s problem and solving it.  We already know the perfect offer that will do this, but we need to talk to them.  There are many ways to do this, but we’ll identify the ones that are perfect for you.

As you continue on your journey, I’ll help you make adjustments to each part of the plan.  You are going to learn what works well, what doesn’t, and you’ll get a deeper understanding of how best to serve your customers.

Technical Guidance

Everyone gets stuck at some point with actually creating the “thing” you want to create.  There’s software out there you can integrate for just about everything.  But, just thinking about the words “software” and “integrate” tends to make people a bit anxious.  Fortunately, I love the technical nitty gritty, so bring it on!

If the plan we lay out doesn’t sound like what you want to do, you can always hire some help.  I can help you with that, too.  It all comes down to the sliding scale between time and money.  All the information you need to create just about anything is available on the internet.  It’s just do you want to spend the time to figure it out.  Or, is it time to hire some help.

I chose to take the time to do all the technical back end work (and you’ll have access to my experience), but your decision may be different.

Why A Business Coach?

At the end of the day, you will have a business that works for you.   You’ll be able to take time off when you need it.  You won’t need to ask permission to attend a kids’ field trip.   To be very clear, though, you will need to put in the work.  But, if you do the actions that we discuss each week, then you will end up with a life and business that you love. This is what you get when you work with me:
  • The best strategy for YOU.
  • The optimal product/service for your customers.
  • A concise way of communicating how you serve your customers/clients
  • Powerful and effective habits of setting long-term goals and linking them to your daily tasks.
  • A dedicated accountability partner.
  • The power of an MBA and an engineering Master’s degree in your corner.

Take Action

Even just reading through the Design + Grow Masterplan may be intimidating.  Maybe, even considering making the investment in yourself and your business makes you second guess your abilities.

But, guess what.  Someone else has done what you are trying to do, and accessing their knowledge and experience will shave months or years off of you reaching the revenues you crave.

It can be scary going for your dreams. But, what’s scarier is not attempting to reach them.

“Action is the antidote to fear.” – Ruth Soukup

We all have fear, and it looks different to everyone at different times.  Fear can include:

  • Not sending out a social media post because you are afraid of what people will think.
  • Not creating a website because you don’t want your friends and family to think your idea is stupid
  • Hanging on to that day job until the timing is absolutely perfect.
  • Waiting until your income from your side hustle is significant enough to do _______ (hint: it might not increase enough until you feed it with enough time).
  • Not communicating your big idea to your boss.
  • Saying “no, thanks” to a speaking engagement, because that is scary to just about everyone.
  • Dragging your feet on having your first kid (btw, there is no perfect time for that first one).

An Australian nurse spent 12 years counseling people who were dying.  She concluded that the most common regret was:

“I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.” – from the book The Top Five Regrets of the Dying by Bronnie Ware.

I am always trying to improve my life so that it is more “true to myself”.  I find that it is a common feeling among my clients as well.

I have so much more to share, and I hope I get the opportunity to do so in our first introductory call.

Before I had my first consultation with BJ, I wasn’t sure if I really needed a “business coach”.  I have an MBA from a top program and 15 years of experience working for large companies.  While I was skeptical, I was also eager to gain perspective from anyone that could potentially add value.  I had just started my engineering consulting business, and I wasn't really sure what to work on first.  After each session I walked away with new energy, new ideas and an accountability to get something done for my business before our next meeting. Every small business owner knows it’s hard to balance the work and growing the business.  BJ helps with that.  His thoughtful questions will help you find your way.  I call him my "business therapist".

I own and operate a multi six figure coaching practice and I couldn’t have done this without BJ’s consulting. He has a lot of knowledge and is eager to share it. He is patient and methodical and what I have found is any problem I encounter he has unequivocally helped me figure out the solution. I know that wherever I want to take my business BJ can help me get there. I can’t recommend him enough.
